True and genuine worship is when man, through his spirit, attains to friendship and intimacy with God. True worship is when the immortal and invisible part of a man speaks to and meets with God, who is immortal and invisible."

William Barclay

Traditionally, the four elements of the Protestant worship service are prayer, sermon/homily, praises, and the reading of Scripture.  All other aspects are mere "commentaries" of these four elements.  Modern praise has evolved since then, but the basics still remain. Once a month (or more often) the sacrament of communion is practiced, being a fifth element.

For years, one of my greatest pet peeves has been the inexistence of free praise music.  This frustration is theological.  After all, there is no biblical reason that songs of praise should be copyrighted in the context of the Church, since the Church is the family of faith.

Thus, this praise archive is made available for use to my brothers and sisters in Christ from the churches I've had the joy and honor of being members of.*  I hope that this archive makes their service all the more easier, and allow them to focus on the art of praising God. After all, as King David has reminded us often, praise is a very joyous occasion, employing the use of all instruments and gifts (Psalm 150)!
